For as long as one remembers, women have been seen to be weaker than men. They have to fit certain roles society has constructed. Because certain ideas have become norms, often women do not realize that there can be change and should break away from this socially constructed belief. Many individuals will say that it is 2016, times have changed and that women are now equal to men. Truth is, men continue to be the superior sex. The leader of our country, has always been a male. Sure women are allowed to vote but these decisions were approved by men. What is the great idea that makes men superior? Women are often perceived to be vulnerable. While men are perceived to be strong and “alpha “like. People often use the phrase “you sock like a girl” as a form of an insult. That phrase is completely inoffensive until the comparison is made. The the word “girl” is what people use to insult another individual. Those perceptions are just stereotypes that society has upon women. If one would use another word that doesn’t not relate to women, it is seen as a compliment. Men’s vocabulary can consist of curse words, and they definitely get away with using slang, but it is not “lady like”. Again, reflecting to men having privileges women can not be a part of. Men need to wake up and meet women half way to change theses ideas. Maybe society can not jump straight to the whole “free the nipple” idea, but a start can be with having equal wages between women and men. Society should work as whole, gender needs to be put aside, and men should empower women just as women empower men.
